Cadillac Escalade in winter

Ski trip

Whether it is six more weeks of winter or an early spring we still have a little winter left, and what a better way to enjoy it than hitting the slopes! When embarking on a winter wonderland journey you need a few vital things: warm clothing, some travel companions & a sweet ride. I needed a vehicle that could fit all of my family’s gear, plus of course my family! When I picked up the Cadillac Escalade from NewRoads I had the last piece of the puzzle for my skiing adventure.

We packed up the Escalade with four of everything, skis, poles, boots & headed to Caledon Ski Club. Caledon is about 30 minutes out of York Region and home to Forks of the Credit Road, a well known road for its sharp turns and beautiful soundings and a place I have visited before with NewRoads! In the winter this place is a whole new ball game, there is something about a blanket of snow that makes everything more beautiful. Our drive up was stunning, and seriously comfortable due to the Escalades lux interior!

Once we got to the Ski Club unpacking out the back of the Escalade was so easy, and with a push of a button the trunk closed. Even in a packed parking lot and this very large truck parking is made easy with my favourite feature of the 21st century – the back up camera, honestly this feature continues to be my game changer. So, with the car unpacked and parked, the only thing left to do was hit the hills! It was amazing to be back on the snow again. I grew up skiing every weekend and I loved every minute of it (minus the early mornings). So being able to get back to that was the best feeling.

When it was time to head home, we packed up the truck and turned up the heated seats and the heated stirring wheel.  As I mentioned before Caledon is known for its winding roads so you might find yourself worried about a large truck like an Escalade taking those curves, but honestly it was a breeze and this is coming from someone who is used to a small sedan. PS – did I mention the step that pops out when you open the door, Cadillac leaves no details out. I hope you enjoy the last bit of winter!

NewRoads GM Makeover photo

On my way to work at NewRoads Mazda, I couldn’t help but notice large cranes in front of the NewRoads GM store that I pass by on my everyday route. So I decided to stop by and check it out!

After inspecting a little closer, I could see they were installing signs above the store entrance. The building, which had already undergone changes, was now getting sleek new letters installed.

The following day, on my way by, I once again couldn’t help but stare at the NewRoads GM store. However, today it wasn’t the big cranes that drew my intention, it was the fresh and new CADILLAC BUICK GMC and CHEVROLET signage.

The beautiful signs leap off the fresh new facade  each automotive brand. Be sure to check it out at 18100 Yonge Street, Newmarket Ontario – you can’t miss it!

CIAS 2016 Recap - Subaru

The 2016 Canadian Auto Show is on this week (12th – 21nd) and we had a sneak peak the day before it opened to the public for some exciting reveals! Check out below to see what the NewRoads brand had in store!

MAZDA:

First things first, congrats to the CX3 for being named AJAC Utility Car of the year! WAY TO GO MAZDA! Anyway, the display featured the MX5 Global Cup car as well as the new CX9 that was unveiled a few months ago. It was exciting to see the new redesigned SUV, and we can’t wait to see it in our show room! The MX5 Global Cup car was also great to see, loving all of the variations of the MX5 that are popping up. Too bad we couldn’t have had a visit form the RX vision!

SUBARU

Subaru had a lot going on! From the new Hyper Blue colour making an appearance to the new XV Crosstrek Hybrid and the new Impreza concept there was lots to see. Loving the new styling in this Impreza concept, it’s a bit of a difference to their traditional design, and it’s working. Also on display was one of Subaru’s rally cars, it was awesome to see a well used Subie. The vehicle that I was really excited to see that I didn’t expect was the XV Crosstrek HYBRID. That’s right a hybrid Subie. Can’t wait to take this bad bot out for a spin.

From the runways of New York City and Dubai the Cadillac XT5 made an appearance at this year’s CIAS. The new Cadillac SUV is a nice addition to the line up. Cadillac also revealed the AT6, making it obvious that they are style driven. Chevrolet took some queues from their consumers and announced the new Cruze hatchback and the BoltEV. Buick featured the new Envision (coming to showrooms soon) and the stylish Avenur concept showing that Buick has still got it. The GMC display is always fun to see with their suspended truck allowing you to walk under the vehicle and see all the moving parts.

KIA

Personally, I was really excited to visit the Kia set up and see the much-anticipated 2017 Kia Sportage. It was everything I could imagine and more! Kia also revealed a new concept car that will be hitting the showrooms early 2017 named NIRO. The Niro model is a HUV (Hybrid Utility Vehicle) leading the new direction for Kia’s future. These two models showcase the initial future of Kia design and we’re into it! Another pleasant surprise at the Kia display was the #KiaAllStarMVP Turbo Optima – just in time for the NBA all-star weekend in Toronto!

Over all the future looks very exciting for our NewRoads brands and the Canadian automotive market in general!

Fashion Week 2015

We’re in the full swing of Fall Fashion weeks all over the world it’s not just the clothes that take the spotlight. Automotive brands like Kia and Cadillac also took on the runways this year at New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

As a growing brand Kia is always trying new things and taking chances, it’s probably one of the things that makes them such a fun brand. This year at New York Fashion week, Kia Motors was the title sponsor of Style360. Known for hosting celebrity fashion shows and presentations, Style360 was excited to have Kia on board this year. The runway was full of familiar faces as tennis pro Serena Williams, Adam Levine and Ashley Graham debuted their upcoming collections and collaborations. With this surprising presence at NYFW, Kia also broadcasted the shows via SnapChat – showing that they’ll continue to break out from the automotive crowd.

As we’ve seen through out the past year or so, Cadillac has evolved into a brand that has a strong presence in the fashion world. Thus, it should be no surprise to see them at NYFW. Along with their incredible stunt with Public School, Cadillac has also teamed up with Nick Wooster to launch a Capsule Collection of men’s wear. During a time in which Women’s wear is in the spotlight it’s nice to see someone focus on men’s wear. The Cadillac Capsule Collection is comprised of pieces of today’s most influential emerging men’s designers. “Cadillac asked me to curate a group of things that I think any guy should have,” said Wooster when talking about the collection. As always we have to keep our eyes out for what Cadillac will do next!

Cadillac’s Hudson River Runway

Last week was a big week for Cadillac! Not only did they launch the new XT5 but they did it by suspending it over the Hudson river, kicking off New York Fashion week. You know, just a completely regular, casual Wednesday night. Cadillac has been working with upcoming fashion label Public School to make some noise this year – and I think they’re doing a pretty great job.

Bloomberg.com is calling Cadillac’s latest appearance at the Public School NYFW party “the best publicity stunt of the year.” Proving that buying a Cadillac is not like buying just a car. You’re buying into the Cadillac life style, where you dare greatly and are style driven! This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen Cadillac team up with Fashion. Last year at NYFW the new-to-New York automotive brand lent their new New York City offices for a few runways, while earlier this year they were the title sponsor of NYFWM (Fashion week for Menswear).  And let’s not forget Jason Wu staring in their latest commercial.

What will they do next!?

Girls Night Out featuring the Cadillac ATS

Cadillac ATS

Whether it’s a intimate dinner, or heading out on the town there’s nothing better than getting together with some friends for a night out. I recently surprised one of my oldest friends with a girl’s night out on our local main street in Newmarket.  As an added bonus I picked her up in a new Cadillac ATS! We headed down to Main Street to embrace the small town vibes, and of course have a little fun with the ATS!

Newmarket has been going through some major changes over the past few years and it’s really expanding – one place where this is very evident (other than the multiplying subdivisions) is on Main Street. With new restaurants popping up constantly and the new community centre, Newmarket has become quite a city. It’s no Toronto but a girl can dream.

We ended up at one of my all time favourite places in Newmarket, Made in Mexico. This authentic Mexican restaurant has been featured on the Food Network show You Gotta Eat here, and for good reason! We indulged in some fruity drinks and delicious Mexican food.

I’ve always loved the drive to Main Street, it feels like you’ve stumbled upon a secret when you finally arrive. The mix of the old architecture and the new modern buildings give off a “heart of the city” vibe that can sometimes get lost when you live in suburbia. Another great part about Main Street is its proximity to Fairy Lake, you really get the best of both worlds here.

We took the ATS up Main Street and parked right on the side of the street, one thing that I really noticed about this vehicle is its amazing handling. No surprise that the ATS is named one of the sharpest handling cars in its class! This nimble handling made it extremely easy to park where ever and how ever. Need to turn on a dime? No problem! Parallel parking only? Done! Seriously this car was MADE for city driving.

ATS. Cadillac ATS.

Taking photos with this beautiful ride only secured the fact that the Cadillac ATS exudes class, with some old school luxury vibes. I’m not going to lie, I felt pretty chic driving around in this bad boy. It’s precise, exact and exhilarating all in one compact sports sedan.

Cadillac + New York Fashion Week: Men’s

Over last week Cadillac became the first-ever automotive sponsor of New York Fashion Week: Men’s. They signed on earlier this year in hopes of upping the cool factor to their brand. As the automotive sponsor of NYFWM, Cadillac has put on a variety of related events as well as provided Cadillac vehicles as shuttle for attendees. President Johan de Nysschen spoke about this new direction:

“I am very much interested in taking Cadillac into the world of fashion. The whole idea of beginning to strengthen Cadillac’s position as a lifestyle brand is very much central to our mission. This is a good start.”

Cadillac + New York Fashion Week: Men’s

This was not Cadillac’s first appearance during a New York Fashion Week event, during the traditional NYFW, mainly womenswear Cadillac took over, or better yet let public school take over their new offices between Tribeca and the West Village, and showed its Autumn/Winter 2015 mens and womenswear collection.

With its desire to return to the cutting edge of culture, Cadillac is making strides in all of the right places! We can’t wait to see what they do next! We’re currently transforming our NewRoads Cadillac showroom so stay tuned for the big reveal!

Cadillac at the Taste of Toronto

Over the past weekend Cadillac had the pleasure of being a part of the 2015 Taste of Toronto festival in Fort York!  Being one of the prime sponsors of the event Cadillac created a temporary home, the Cadillac Tasting Theatre, for some of the worlds most renowned chefs, including Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto and Canadian restaurateur/ English Chef Michael Bonacini.

With a few stunning Cadillac’s on display to keep the event goers company, the star chefs were busy cooking up delicious eats on the Cadillac stage. Celebrating Canadian and intentional food the chefs hosted demonstrations revealing their cooking secrets of their favouirte dishes to those who listened. Cadillac put the chefs in the driver’s seat, and the attendees in the passenger seat for one tasty weekend!

Cadillac Ciel Concept + Entourage

 Cadillac Ciel Concept

Do any of you miss the days when you could (more) easily get your hands on a four-door convertible? If so, you might have a reason to check out the new Entourage movie that was released last week in theaters. Remember the TV series, with the parties, the luxurious lifestyle and of course the cars? One thing is for sure if you were a fan of the show you definitely remember the 1965 Lincoln Continental at the opening credits. No word if the Lincoln is making a comeback in the movie but in the trailer, it seems to have been replaced by the Cadillac concept Ciel. This stick four-door convertible Cadillac concept from 2011 is commandingly elegant and achingly desirable giving the Entourage team the arguably most stylish vehicle to date.

Top Auto Ads

Not sure if everyone else gets to the same level emotional investment while watching advertisements, or maybe I’m just really good at being a consumer and getting advertised do but for some reason I get really pulled in by ads. Usually car ads don’t have the same effect, but let me tell you the times are changing, because this I felt some emotions and inspirations and good feelings from these brands latest commercials! So with out further adieu, check out my favourite car ads!

SUBARU

“Making Memories”

“Jr. Driver”

Subaru for a long time now has played on the love factor of family relationships and damn, it gets me right in the heartstrings! With a bit of humor and a lot of Aweeee, Subaru brings us these adverts that comment on their brand as a life long product and that is something to invest in!

KIA

“Perfect Getaway”

Kia on the other hand is known for their Hamser Ads, which personally don’t really do anything for me, but in the past Super Bowl they upped the anti and stared James bond him self, securing this advert on my list.

CADILLAC - Dare Greatly

“The Arena”

“How Dare”

Like Kia, Cadillac is changing the game as well, now I am not particularly emotionally attached (who am I kidding) to these ads but I really am drawn to their structure and production. It is so ambiguous and aloof that you aren’t really sure what is going on until the end, they really sealed the deal with this campaign.

MAZDA

“A Drivers life”

Mazda usually sticks to their cookie cutter ads about the cars but this latest advert looks like they took a page from Subaru’s playbook and it worked! This one takes you through the ups and downs of life in just 1 minute, and leaves you feeling good at the end of it all. Bravo!

Looking forward to seeing some more inventive and inspiring ad from these automobile giants!
