NewRoadss Childrens Dream Golf Tournament

Great golf and giving back at the 2017 NewRoads Children’s Dream Charity Golf Tournament

Golf has a long-standing history of giving back to our local York Region communities.  Great golf and giving back all begins with patience for the game, sportsmanship, and the love of the outdoors.  This incredible game of golf continues with thousands of dollars raised annually for charities across the country.

Connor McDavid at NewRoads Childrens Dream Golf Tournament

On August the 18th, 2017 the NewRoads Automotive Group enjoyed their 5th year as presenting sponsor of the NewRoads Children’s Dream Charity Golf Tournament.  The tournament was a tremendous success and we are proud to announce a $200,000 donation from the tournament to the Newmarket Outdoor Arena fundraising project!

NewRoads Childrens Dream Golf Tournament in Newmarket

This is the foundations most ambitious fundraising project ever – a new, permanent year-round Outdoor Arena – a first for Newmarket. The Outdoor Arena will provide opportunities for children and youth of all ages, abilities, and economic backgrounds to be physically active and engaged in sports and recreational activities all year long.

We are proud of our Newmarket Community and support the efforts of the Newmarket Children’s Dream Foundation.   The primary purpose of the Foundation is to build or significantly revitalize children’s playgrounds within areas of our community that lack parkland, outdoor recreation areas, and where the residents have little or no capacity to raise funds themselves.

John Taylor at NewRoads Childrens Dream Golf Tournament

The Lebovic Foundation provided a new location the Lebovic Golf Club for the event this year, giving not only a nice golf course to play but an incredible generous donation as well.  Finally, we would like to thank Brian and Connor McDavid for their continuing to support the tournament and the Outdoor Arena.

The tournament is such a big success because so many people and businesses from our community sponsor, volunteer, and attend year after year.  “This little tournament is an amazing example of how our community will step up time and time again to make great things happen.”  John Taylor Regional Councillor and Deputy Mayor of Newmarket said.

Where to Cool Off this Summer

Summer swimming Newmarket

Where to Cool Off this Summer in York Region

The sun has come out in full force and this upcoming month of August looks to be a hot one here in the GTA. When the temperatures are at their highest there is no better way to cool off than going for a swim – not only is it super refreshing, but swimming is also great exercise for children and adults alike! For those not fortunate enough to have a pool of their own to take a quick dip in during the dog days of summer, have no worry! Grab your swimsuit and check out some of these local public pools this month:

Gorman Outdoor Pool

This popular Newmarket swim spot is the perfect place for the entire family to spend an afternoon in the water. Not only is the pool heated and lifeguard supervised, but there are also picnic tables so you can have a bite to eat after working up an appetite in the water. Divers beware, however; the deepest part of the pool is only five feet, so this isn’t the place to go if you are hoping to work on your forward somersault.

Newmarket Riverwalk Commons

Located right outside of the Newmarket Community Centre, this splash pad is a great alternative to actual swimming pools. Young children will enjoy running through the fountains and playing in the inches-deep water. There are large change rooms on site and having the community centre right next door means you and your kids can always go inside if you want to get out of the sun for a little while.

Ray Twinney Recreation Complex

Beat the heat by heading indoors to swim at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex in Newmarket. These facilities offer something for everyone of all ages and swimming abilities; there is a six-lane pool with diving boards for the serious swimmer, a tot pool for the young ones and a waterslide and swirl pool for those who just want to have fun. Before you pack up your goggles and towel, check out the daily public swim times on their schedule.
