This summer, the municipality of York Region will play host to dozens of different festivals. These events provide the perfect opportunity for the entire family to get out and enjoy the summer weather by trying new foods, celebrating different cultures and supporting local businesses. Here are five festivals any York Region resident should check out this summer:

Aurora Chamber Street Festival – June 4

For the 22nd year, a portion of Yonge Street in Aurora will be closed to cars and instead be filled with street performers, food vendors and tents. The one-day festival will have over 500 vendors and activities for the entire family (even your dog!) Parking and admission are free.

King City Craft Beer and Food Truck Festival – June 10

All of your favourite local craft beers will be in one place on June 10th, as the King City Craft Beer and Food Truck Festival takes places at Memorial Park. There will be a variety of gourmet food trucks to accompany the dozen local craft brewers that are taking part in the event. Spend your day sipping delicious beer while enjoying a full line-up of live musical performances. Kids are welcome and a variety of passes are available for purchase online and on site.

York Region Pride Parade – June 17

On June 17th, put on your most colourful clothes and head over to Main Street South in downtown Newmarket to watch the 5th annual York Region Pride Parade. Your kids will love cheering on the fun floats that pass by while dancing along to the music. Want to show your support for the LGBTQ community and participate in the parade? Sign up to be a volunteer or register your local business or group to march or drive a float.

Culture Bridge Festival July 8 – 9

Formerly known as the Caribbean & South Asian Showcase, the 2017 Culture Bridge Festival will take place indoors at the Newmarket MAGNA Centre. The event is a celebration of world cultures and will feature art, performances, a cultural marketplace as well as a variety of activities for kids that will help to educate them on different cultures. Admission is free and non-perishable food donations are encouraged.

Richmond Hill Ribfest – July 21 – 23

Ribfest, an annual event at Richmond Green, has something for every member of the family. The three-day festival will have live entertainment, food trucks, a beer garden, midway and children’s activities. Professional ribbers will cook in front of judges in hopes of being awarded a title while professional eaters compete in the biggest event of the weekend – the rib-eating contest.
