New York Auto Show:

Following the introduction of the Rio5 hatchback this summer, Kia will add a four-door sedan version in the fall. As with the hatch, the sedan rides on a longish 2,570-millimetre wheelbase, which brings surprising space for a subcompact ride.

The Rio, which will be offered in LX, EX and SX trims, is powered by a 1.6-litre direct-injected four-cylinder engine that makes 138 horsepower. It will be offered with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

In something of a rarity, the Rio will feature an idle-stop function ? when the vehicle comes to rest, the engine shuts down to conserve precious fuel and restarts the instant the brake pedal is released.
