2014 Subaru Forester Aces Tough New Crash Test

2014 Subaru Forester Safety IIHS

The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) has added a new crash test to their lineup this year, the small overlap test. Out of 13 SUV’s tested, only one, the Subaru Forester, received a score of “good.” Not surprisingly, the 2014 Forester also received a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS.

For the small overlap test, the vehicle crashes into a 5 foot barrier while going approximately 65 km/h. This test is supposed to replicate crashing into a tree or pole. In addition, this test concentrates on the driver’s side, so consumers can feel very safe and comfortable purchasing a new Forester.

The 2014 Forester is the only SUV on the market right now that has aced all five of the IIHS’s tests, which is not surprising given its impressive safety features. Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Eyesight and Hill Descent Control make this year’s model so great compared to the competition.

Considering small overlap crashes accounted for 25 percent of fatal crashes last year, one could argue that the 2014 Subaru Forester isn’t just one of the safest SUV’s on the market, but one of the safest vehicles on the planet.
