If you purchase a used vehicle it’s important to find out if the airbag has been deployed. If there is a problem, the airbag needs to be replaced immediately. Read ahead to find out how to know whether your airbag has been deployed or not.

To find out if the airbag has been deployed you should ask the seller of the vehicle any details about its accident history. Assuming the crash wasn’t from the rear, the airbag has probably been deployed if the vehicle was in an accident. You should take the vehicle to a mechanic for an inspection.

When an airbag has been deployed the cover of the airbag splits. Inspect the cover to see if there is any unevenness of any repainting. These are both signs of airbag deployment, which means you should take it to a mechanic to get it checked out.

The final check you can do is with the airbag indicator light. If the light turns on and off it means your airbag is fine. If it stays on or flashes that means the airbag has been deployed.

Since some sellers will try and hide airbag deployment it’s important to do your own due diligence to make sure you aren’t putting yourself at risk.
