Best Ontario Road Trip Stops
The summer season is finally here, (YAY!) we can all rejoice as we pile into our cars to escape the cities in hope of an amazing weekend getaway! Only one problem, we all know that traffic will immediately bring us down from the adventure high but fortunately we have a solution!
Sometimes we spend too much time focusing on our arrival destination and forget about the journey. How does that saying go? “Life isn’t about the destination its about how you get there”? So this summer no matter what your point B is on the map, consider planning a quick detour to remind your self of the journey.
So you’re headed up NORTH? (Muskoka, Algonquin)
- WEBERS
Webers is a well known classic off of high way 11. Anyone who has traveled to the Muskoka’s has at least drove past the burger joint or been told that you HAVE TO STOP HERE, by someone. Obviously known for its delicious burgers and quirky train style seating, it is sort of a right of passage when you are driving up north (if you can stand the line up).
- MAPLE LEAF DAIRY BAR
A little bit out of the way located in the village of Jackson’s Point in Georgina the bubble-gum pink ice cream shop sits on the coast of Lake Simcoe. This shop is the original ice-cream parlour and a family tradition since 1965, and a great stop for the family!
So you’re headed WEST? (Niagara)
- NIAGARA ON THE LAKE WINERIES
If your final destination is the Fall’s, you might want to take a quick detour to some of the amazing wineries close by! With some wine tours/tasting starting at $10 a person it is definitely worth it, if you have some extra time!
- ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENS
If you are looking for more of a quick stop try the Royal Botantical Gardens, just minutes from the high way in Burlington. A great stop if you have kids, as the Gardens are not just beautiful but also educational!
So you’re headed EAST? (Ottawa, Montreal, QC)
This can be a daunting drive for anyone, thus planning a few stops on the way can be crucial. Located pretty much half way to Montreal, Kingston provides plenty of stop options to have you refueled for the rest of your trip. Interested in a little history? Visit Fort Henry and take your family back to the 1860’s. Want a little fun? Try your turn at go carting at Kingston Family Funworld!
Just two hours from Toronto, Campbellford houses some delicious distractions! Check out their Empire Cheese Factory or the World’s Finest Chocolate shop and indulge your self. Also don’t forget to check out the GIANT toonie before heading back on the road!
