Community Matters: Big Brothers Big Sisters of York | Big Night Out 2013
 
At NewRoads we strive to FIND new roads and new ways to help our community.
 
On Sunday July 14, 2013 we’ll be holding our 2nd Annual NewRoads Big Brothers Big Sisters Charity Classic Car Show and NewRoads Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC at 18000 Yonge St. It’s a car show, BBQ and children’s play centre all rolled into one ! 100 percent of the proceeds go to BBBS.
 
Our goal again this year is to have a bunch of fun, meet more great car enthusiasts and people in our community – and find a way to provide BBBS with another $10,000 in funding.
 
On a similar note – on Thursday June 20, 2013 – NewRoads supported and attended with a table of 10 – the Big Night Out – Celebrating 100 years of Big Brothers Big Sisters  It was a first class event. The sponsors, food, entertainment (Blue Rodeo), prizes and auctions were simply outstanding!
 
I would like to share a personal story that genuinely touched me that evening.  During the evening one of the gentleman who is 87 at our table and our friend – took ill.  An EMS provider who arrived to assess and help our friend (who was simply amazing) indicated to me he donates to BBBS every year while taking our friend out to a waiting ambulance.
 
I had said, “that is very kind of you”. He went on to say, that his father died tragically when he was 12 years old.  His mother was left as a widow with 5 children. He was a “Little”. His “Big” brother he says helped him make the “right decisions” in his life to progress to where he is today.
 
I expressed to him how simply amazing that here in turn he is… helping people everyday. He and I shared a simple handshake that meant so much more to both of us. That evening he helped care for our friend, but everyday he cares for others in the community.  Touching.
 
As quoted from BBBS – There is no more important investment you can make than helping children and youth realize their full potential. Our thanks to everyone who makes that possible.
 
It appears, although not confirmed that gala generously raised over 1 million dollars!
