NewRoads Children’s Dream Charity Golf Classic

Ending my NewRoads internship on a high note!

Thinking back to my first day as a summer intern at NewRoads, I would have to say it was a very ‘Mchappy ‘one as I met my new boss, Kelly to hand out gifts to McDonalds drive through customers. It seems impossible that four months have already flown by and I am now finishing my final year at Western University.  I am thankful for the relationships I have developed with many NewRoads employees and I will miss seeing everyone’s smiling faces on a daily basis.  Four months really have gone by in the blink of an eye and I am so glad that my last day at NewRoads was just as amazing as my first.

On August 19th Kelly and I attended the NewRoads Children’s Dream Charity Golf Classic, which also happened to be my last day. The day began when we arrived at RedCrest golf course and took in the gorgeous view and enjoyed a delicious burger until registration was complete. Coincidentally, Kelly and I wore the exact same pink outfits making us easy to notice on the golf course.

After Regional Councillor John Taylor said a few words thanking sponsors and those who came out for the tournament, everyone zoomed away in their carts. John Taylor, along with his wife Michelle Digulla and a group of local business people who are passionate about providing children with opportunities to stay physically fit, started the NewRoads Children’s Dream Foundation in 2010.

While everyone made their way toward their starting hole, Kelly and I hopped into our own Golf Cart with the sole purpose of cheering on players and taking some awesome pictures. Kelly and I had a laugh because the majority of the time we were not sure whether our golf cart was going in the right direction or which hole we were headed to. We did, however, try to greet every group of golfers and ask them how their game was going!

The sun was shining and it was evident that everyone was having a good time golfing for a wonderful cause. Kelly and I were guilty of following John Taylor’s foursome a little closer, as his group included Newmarket local, and Edmonton Oiler superstar Connor McDavid. Connor happens to be quite the golfer as we soon found out.

At the end of the eighteen holes, cocktails and dinner were provided. The event was a wonderful success and a nice way for me to end my internship for the summer. It was hard saying good-bye to the NewRoads crew and the thought of not seeing them at work everyday made my goodbye a tough one.

Despite the fact that my summer internship is over, I feel lucky to be staying with the team part time and helping out when I can. I will end with a line I can’t resist, I look forward to the “New Roads” I will travel over the next year, but will not forget the NewRoads Automotive Group that have given me many wonderful experiences and memories.
