Jerseys for Humboldt Broncos

NewRoads Automotive Group joins the movement #JerseysforHumboldt Day

It was not too long ago that our NewRoads Community Crew dawned sturdy denim supporting a great cause. I am proud to say we also united with thousands of communities for #JerseysforHumboldt Day sporting team jerseys or a green ribbon.

Jerseys for Humboldt Day

On Thursday, April 12 it was suggested by hockey parents to have #JerseysforHumboldt Day that started in British Columbia and quickly spread across Canada and beyond. We at NewRoads decided to do the same and encouraged everyone to wear a jersey on Thursday. We also asked for a $5 donation from everyone and the NewRoads Automotive Group would match the total donations.

Humboldt Broncos Day

“It is impossible for any of us not to have heard of the tragic events in Saskatchewan this past week involving a junior hockey team called the Humboldt Broncos. Sixteen young people lost their lives in this tragic accident. As a hockey-loving nation, the tragedy is, quite understandably, reverberating across the nation.” NewRoads President Michael Croxon said
It is amazing what can happen when a community comes together and can inspire a movement.

Humboldt Broncos Day

We are very grateful to everybody in the community whose continuous support allows us to continue our mission of giving back to the community and helping people find NewRoads.

World Down Syndrome Day

World Down Syndrome Day

NewRoads gets their Denim on for World Down Syndrome Day

On Wednesday, March 21st, 2018 join the NewRoads Community Crew while we get our Denim on for World Down Syndrome Day. Dozens of NewRoads Employees, Friends, Family, Neighbours and Customers are invited to join us by choosing to ditch the suits and heels and create a “fashion statement” by wearing clothes made from the sturdy cotton fabric known as Denim.

Why denim, and what’s the fashion statement?

Denim is not something many of us have the opportunity to wear to work. Giving a chance to employees to wear jeans to work for a great cause promotes an excellent work environment. One of the many things I love about working at NewRoads. We encourage fun in our work while supporting our community and its many causes.

World Down Syndrome Day

All people with Down syndrome must have opportunities to contribute to the community and live valued lives, included on a full and equal basis with others, in all aspects of society. People with Down syndrome can and do bring so much to the community, wherever they live around the world when given the opportunity.

100% of our proceeds raised will go to Down Syndrome Diagnosis Network (DSDN). DSDN supports families with current information and real-life accounts of life with Down syndrome during the prenatal, newborn, and early childhood phases. The DSDN is committed to creating unbiased, family-centered discussion of Down syndrome within the medical community in order to cultivate a culture of acceptance and inclusion for those with Down syndrome at all stages of life. http://www.dsdiagnosisnetwork.org

Down Syndrome Day

It is indeed amazing when a sturdy cotton fabric known as Denim can inspire change. We are very grateful to everybody in the community whose continuous support allows us to continue our mission of giving back to the community and helping people find NewRoads.

2018 Women in Business Award Winners

Congratulations to the 2018 Women in Business Award Winners!

An incredible time was had by all at the “Love Your Business” event powered by the East Gwillimbury and Georgina Chamber of Commerce. It was another sold-out crowd at Silver Lakes Golf & Conference Centre 6th Annual Women In Business Luncheon. The event was an inspiring opportunity to celebrate the success of businesswomen in our region and included some fantastic local vendor booths, a delicious lunch courtesy of Silver Lakes and a great keynote speech by Patti Thompson of King Cole Ducks.

If you have ever considered Duck farming could be fun, watch this video for some serious laughs and learn about a local company who has “their Ducks in Row”.

King Cole is genuinely a From Farm to Fork type of business and supporting our local farming community is top of mind for all of us at the NewRoads Automotive Group.

Silverlakes Golf

The theme of this year’s luncheon was “Love your Business: Keeping the Passion for your Business Alive”. Congratulations to all the Award nominees and the two winners of the Women of the Year Awards, Kim Mortson of ‘Body Design‘ with the EG Chamber and Amanda Stewart from ‘I Do! Weddings’ with the Georgina Chamber. Thank you to everyone who came out to share, celebrate and inspire one another! For more details, please visit www.egcoc.org & www.georginachamber.com #WIB2018

5 things to do in the GTA this New Year’s Eve

With Christmas in the rear view, our focus shifts to New Years! For those who have yet to make plans for December 31st, here are a list of fun things to do in the Greater Toronto Area this New Years Eve.

Nathan Phillips Square

First up is the party of all parties in the GTA – the celebration taking place at Nathan Phillips Square, which serves as one of the top New Year’s Eve events in the Canada year after year. With live music, fireworks, and skating opportunities, the party at Nathan Phillips Square is a great way to bring in 2018.

Just make sure to get a spot well before midnight, as The Square tends to get packed around 9-10 p.m.

Newmarket First Night

Newmarket First Night

For those who prefer to do something a little closer to home, the Town of Newmarket is putting together a fun event for the whole family.

Located at the Magna Centre on Mulock Drive, “Newmarket First Night” offers plenty of fun activities throughout the evening, including skating, face painting, and balloon twisting. The best part is, it’s all free!

Both Aurora and Richmond Hill are putting on similar events, so there are plenty of options in the York Region Area.

Ripley's Aquarium

Ripley’s Aquarium

If you’re looking for a fun night out with your significant other, Ripley’s Aquarium is hosting a New Year’s event this Sunday that will be sure to be memorable. In addition to the normal aquatic displays, Ripley’s is spicing things up by offering hors d’oeuvres, alcohol, and a live DJ.

General admission is a little steep at $90, but you do get coat check and a free drink ticket.

The Infinity Ball

If you’re someone who likes dancing and loud music, The Infinity Ball is right up your alley. Hosted by Toronto-based super group Dwayne Gretzky, the Enercare Centre is sure to be bumping with some of the best tunes of the last several decades being played throughout the evening.

For those who aren’t aware, Dwayne Gretzky (not to be confused with hockey legend Wayne Gretzky) is a cover band that has captivated audiences with its ability to mix both classic and modern pop.

Tickets are currently on sale, so make sure to secure yours before it’s too late.

A Night in Thailand

If you’re single and ready to mingle, Bangkok Garden is the place to be this New Year’s Eve. Get a taste of what it’s like to live in Southeast Asia by checking out A Night in Thailand on Dec. 31st. With a complimentary cocktail, free champagne, and a selfie station, Bangkok Garden is the perfect way to say farewell to 2017.

Tickets are only $50 now, but are expected to go up in price as New Year’s approaches, so don’t wait to buy yours.

5 things to do in the GTA this Holiday Season

Don’t look now but Christmas is upon us, let’s get out and make the most of this holiday season before it passes us by!

If you’re looking for something to do with either your family or significant other during the upcoming weeks, you’ll be happy to hear that you won’t have to look far to find some top-shelf entertainment.

Here are five things to do in the GTA this Christmas season:

Skating at Nathan Phillips Square

If you’re interested in having a romantic evening in the city, skating at Nathan Phillips Square is a great complement to a fancy dinner downtown. And the best part is, it’s completely free!  Don’t own skates? R ent them at the rink. Skate sharpening is also available on location.

See a live performance

Those who prefer to spend their time indoors as opposed to outside should consider checking out one of the numerous live performances that are set to take place across the city this Holiday season.

If you’re into ballet, it’s tough to top The Nutcracker, which ranks as one of the top Christmas shows in the city year after year.

Disney on Ice and A Christmas Carol are also both excellent choices. Be sure to look for tickets sooner rather than later, as a number of shows across the GTA are already sold out.

Toronto Christmas Market

Toronto Christmas Market

The Toronto Christmas Market has quickly built a name for itself over the past several years, developing into a must-see event during the Holiday season.

Located in the heart of the city in the Distillery District, the Christmas Market is accessible for those who live in the suburbs, making it a top choice for out-of-town residents.

Spend your time trying out some tasty food and warm beverages, or just take in the beautiful lights and scenery. It’s also a good place to go shopping if you’re looking for last-minute gift ideas.

skiing in the GTA

Go skiing

It may come as a surprise to many, but there are actually ski hills in the city of Toronto. Earl Bales Park and Centennial Park are both nearby resorts to take the family for a day. Even better, both come at an incredibly affordable price.

Sure, there are definitely bigger and better hills if you venture outside of the GTA, but it’s tough to complain when an all-day pass is just $34.

Festival of Carols

If you consider yourself to be a Christmas Carol enthusiast, you’ll be happy to hear that a performance exists in the city that will be right up your alley.

Located at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, the Festival of Carols is the perfect way to bring in the Holiday cheer.  The event runs from December 5-6th, so don’t wait to buy your tickets.

Top 5 Places to See Christmas Lights in Ontario

Top 5 Places to See Christmas Lights in Ontario

The top 5 places to see Christmas lights in Ontario this year

It’s getting dark a little earlier now that Daylight Savings has ended, and that means Christmas light displays are just around the corner!

Here are some of the top events in southern Ontario:

Cavalcade of Lights

The Cavalcade of Lights is one of the top winter spectacles in Ontario year after year, taking place at Nathan Phillips Square in downtown Toronto. Visit the downtown core on Saturday, November 25th to see the lighting of the six-story tree, which serves as the city’s official holiday tree.

Feel free to stick around if you want to make a night of it, as there will be plenty of live music and entertainment.

Lakeside Festival of Lights

If you live west of Toronto, you may be more interested in checking out the 22nd annual Lakeside Festival of Lights in Burlington. Over 60 holiday-themed exhibits will be on display in Spencer Smith Park, making it a sight to behold for the entire family.

Many of the displays use LED lights, making the event much more environmentally-friendly than some of the other nearby events. The Festival of Lights starts at the beginning of December and ends shortly into the New Year.

Tree lighting in Pickering

If you’re in the Durham area, check out the tree lighting and fireworks taking place in Esplanade Park on Friday, December 1st. This event is perfect for parents with younger children, as they’ll be sure to love the merry-go-round and elf rides that will be available to the public.

If your children are little older, there’s still plenty for them to do, as the event is also offering basketball, soccer, and hockey-themed games. Be sure to bring your appetite, as there will be a number of Canadian-themed food trucks at the event.

While the event is free, organizers are collecting unwrapped gifts and non-perishable food items for those in need, so lend a hand if you can.

Aurora

In York Region, the Christmas tree lighting in Aurora is just a few weeks away. Santa, Mrs. Claus, and Santa’s reindeer will all be making their way from the North Pole to Aurora Town Hall on December 6th bringing with them loads of Christmas spirit.

The Salvation Army will also be there to collect food and toy donations.

The event runs from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, so be sure to get there early.

Winter Wonderland in Newmarket

Another local option is Winter Wonderland in Newmarket, which features a top-notch light display. Spend the night skating or hop aboard the Tim Horton’s Express Train on weekends and take in the dazzling holiday-themed exhibit.

The event starts at the beginning of December, so plan accordingly!
