With the hot weather almost here and the school year practically over, it won’t be long before you’ll need to begin planning for your family’s summer vacation.  Fortunately, with the high number of beautiful destinations available in Ontario, you won’t need to go far to find a cool place to visit.

Here are some of the best road trip spots in the province:

Not only is Niagara Falls a great date destination, but it’s also a good spot to bring your kids. With plenty of tours, museums and parks nearby, there’s more than enough to keep your children entertained for the day.

Canada’s Wonderland

With endless rides and games available for all age groups, the entire family can enjoy a day at Canada’s Wonderland.  Located in Vaughan – Canada’s Wonderland offers breathtaking rides, exciting carnival games and some of the top fun-food in the province.

If nature’s your thing, there’s arguably no better place than Algonquin National Park. With an endless supply of hiking and canoe trails, you can spend days soaking in the beautiful scenery. And with plenty of campsites and cottages available to rent, you should have no problem finding a comfortable place to sleep. Just remember to pack bug spray!

Ottawa

Plan a weekend trip in Ontario’s capital, home of Parliament Hill, the National Gallery and the Rideau Canal. Ottawa is filled with historical government buildings and cool museums, so you’ll have no problem finding stuff to do while exploring the city.

There are typically larger events going on during the weekend, with the Ottawa Blues Festival, Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival and Canada Day among the biggest draws for tourists.

Sandbanks

One of the top camping destinations in the province, Picton’s Sandbanks National Park offers beautiful beaches, clear water and smooth, rock-free sand.  Either bring the family up for a day on the beach or plan a weekend around camping. Many of the sites are inexpensive, so you can enjoy a fun trip without having to break the bank.

Downtown Toronto

If you don’t travel to Toronto often, you should consider heading down to the city this summer.
There are tons of fun things to do, like taking a tour of the CN Tower, catching a Blue Jays game at the Rogers Centre or exploring Ripley’s Aquarium. Other possibilities include watching a play at one of the nearby theatres, taking a walk along the Harbourfront or checking out the CNE.

Stratford

Why not explore your untapped artistic side by heading out to Western Ontario for a play at the Stratford Festival. There are plenty of family-friendly productions, so your kids don’t have to be stuck watching a show in Old English.

If you don’t mind getting in a workout during your time off, then take a trip to the Scenic Caves Nature Adventure in Collingwood. Spend a day exploring the caves, or try out some of the other activities available, like zip lining, hiking or walking along the suspension bridge.
