Do I really need an SUV?
While you may think you need to own a larger vehicle to suit your lifestyle, many people are unhappy with the extra money they need to spend on payments and gas for their SUV or truck. However, because most people don’t need to carry a large load very often, it may be a better idea to buy a small car and then rent a large vehicle when you need it.
Gas – A compact or sub-compact vehicle can burn around half the gas a truck or large SUV burns. Depending on the amount of driving you do, that can be thousands of dollars a year in savings.
When you need something large, you can rent it from a daily rental company. Let’s say you go on road trip style vacation for two weeks every year, and spend two days each year to drop off/pick-up your daughter’s belongings for university. In total that’s just 16 days of must-have time.
You may also be helping the environment and you can have the exact vehicle you need, every time you need it. It may seem like an unusual concept, but it makes a whole lot of sense if you can make it work.
