Buying a Car for a Teenager

Buying a Car for a Teenager

When it comes to purchasing vehicles for their teenage sons and daughters, many parents neglect safety and instead go for the cheapest option and/or best bargain possible. However, considering how important your children are to you and how little driving experience they have, it really is in the best interest of everyone to purchase a vehicle that is safe over one that is the least expensive.

It’s very important that you look at a vehicle’s safety ratings when making your decision. If the vehicle doesn’t have a strong safety rating from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) you should refrain from buying it, even if it’s cheap.

Since teenagers are more likely to get into an accident, consider purchasing a vehicle that doesn’t have a lot of horsepower. Your child is more likely to want to go over the speed limit with a faster vehicle.

Finally, try buying a vehicle that is big. If your child were to end up in an accident, they could use the extra protection. In general, the safer they are, the more comfortable you will feel with them driving.
