Cars for Good

Our Cars for Good partnership with Blue Door Shelter

As we reflect on the past year since Covid-19 has changed our lives we remember how the pandemic brought countries around the world to a standstill. Our medical community told us to stay home, and business scrambled to find ways to pivot & survive. Our hospitals & long-term care homes were (& still are) overwhelmed.
On May 1, 2020 NewRoads formed a partnership with our local Shelter who was forced to close their doors due to outbreaks and move to isolation sites. The Provincial and Regional Government provided the Best Western Hotel as a safe site to house the homeless; however it did not provide a safe option for food. NewRoads volunteers started to deliver lunches to those staying at these isolation sites each and every day from May till December. This was a significant commitment of time, putting ourselves on the frontlines, while continuing to provide for the automotive needs of our community as an essential service.

In June Toyota Canada stepped up to support their dealers and created the Cars for Good campaign to help us increase our efforts. The NewRoads Automotive Group is well known in the community for giving back and supporting many organizations in order to strengthen our community. So while NewRoads worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of staff, customers and community were safe, we reorganized additional staff to support our frontline & essential workers, those in isolation and our hospital.

We are very happy to say that Blue Door Shelter has managed to contain their outbreaks, updated their shelter space with new safety measures and protocols, in addition opened a new space to support their homeless youth. NewRoads no longer needs to deliver the lunches as they are able to support meals onsite.
We are so proud to be a part of this story & to spark the Toyota Canada Cars for Good initiative! In 2021 Toyota Canada launched the Cars for Good program as a national initiative. For more details on this program please visit:
