5 Cities to Explore on Canada Day
Hit the road and explore these 5 cities on Canada Day
The school year is coming to an end, which means Canada Day is fast approaching. If you’re tired of doing the same old thing on Canada Day, consider turning the holiday into a weekend celebration and checking out one of the cities/towns below:
Ottawa
It should go without saying that our nation’s capital is the place to be on Canada Day.
If you enjoy live music, you’ll be happy to hear that there will be a number of notable artists performing throughout Ottawa during the long weekend at Parliament Hill, Major’s Hill Park, and the Canadian Museum of History.
There are plenty of other events throughout the city that are suitable for all ages, making it the perfect place to be if you’re looking to spend time with your whole family.
Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is always a great place to explore on a weekend getaway and Canada Day will be no different. The city will be hosting a number of events on July 1, including a Canada Day parade, live musical performances, a Children’s Zone, food trucks, and a Canada Day car show.
After spending the weekend by the beautiful falls, July 1 will be the perfect way to cap off your mini-getaway.
Toronto
If you have small children, Fort York is a great place to spend Canada Day. This free, day-long event includes music classes, a drill activity, and a scavenger hunt. There will also be free guided tours, so you can learn a little about Toronto’s great history while you’re there.
If you plan to spend the entire weekend in the city, it should be noted that the Toronto Jazz Festival runs until June 30th.
You can also check out Toronto Ribfest at Centennial Park, which will run all weekend. The Ribfest will also have its own Kids Zone, so you won’t have to worry about your little ones getting restless.
At the end of the day, there will be no shortage of things to do if you happen to spend the weekend in the city.
Aurora
If you’d prefer to stay in York Region, you can spend July 1 in Aurora.
The festivities will kick off at 10 in the morning with the Canada Day parade. This will be followed by a pancake breakfast, a Kids workshop, and a horseshoe tournament. There will also be free public skating, swimming, and an open gym available throughout the day.
The night will end with fireworks at 10 pm.
Mississauga
Mississauga will once again host a number of well-known Canadian artists for their July 1 festivities, including pop rock group, Mariana’s Trench.
The night will be capped off with Fireworks presented by Tim Horton’s. If you have friends or relatives who live in the west end of the GTA, Mississauga is an awesome place to celebrate Canada’s 152nd birthday.
