Maybe the biggest misconception is that you can drive normal speeds when the road is icy ahead. No matter how good of a driver you are, you should make sure you are driving slow enough that you can react do the unstable road.
 
Another belief is that all accidents are caused by careless driving, so as long as you are aware of your surroundings, you will be safe. This is not true in the winter, as the poor weather conditions can get the best of the most cautious drivers.
 
Finally, some people think that ice is easy to spot, so as long as you slow down when you see ice coming ahead you will be fine. However, a lot of ice is tough to see, so it is better to stay careful and drive slowly when the roads are not ideal.
