If you’re looking at buying a family vehicle, child safety should always be your top priority. Here are some things to consider when looking to a purchase a family-friendly car.

Far too many children are injured or killed because adults don’t see them when they’re backing out of their driveway. Since you know you have a blind spot, you should strongly consider purchasing a vehicle that comes with a rear-view camera. This will give you a wide-angle view of your surroundings behind you and will reduce the risk of hitting something when backing out.

Children have also been injured or died from power-window switches. They accidentally lean on the switch with their head out the window and the glass comes up and hits them. Avoid rocker switches and togger switches when searching for a car, as they are riskier than lever switches.

Finally, you should try you should test out how your car seats fit in the vehicle before purchasing it. Some vehicles make it difficult to secure the seat tightly in place while others have attachment points that are hard to reach.
