Corvettes and Dragons at Sean Delaney Memorial Golf Classic
“Would you mind to watch over the ZO6 Corvette for the day?”
“Would you like to meet a Dragon”?
Questions you probably haven’t been asked very often and ones certainly new to me. But shortly after joining the NewRoads team, “watching the corvette” and “meeting a dragon” is exactly what I was fortunate enough to do.
On May 16th 2016, the 10th annual Sean Delaney Memorial Golf Classic was held at Magna Golf Club. NewRoads participated in the event that raises money for Food Allergy Canada, by displaying a few of our vehicles and providing the hole-in-one prize of a Jeep Wrangler. Exhibited on both sides of the beautiful Magna Golf House entrance was not only the Wrangler, but also our Z06 Corvette and Cadillac Escalade.
The Magna staff happily helped display the cars and carefully positioned each one to welcome golfers for a closer look. The sun glistened against the shiny black surface of the Escalade, a vehicle that I’d consider a package deal being sleek and stylish while also conveniently seating a large number of people. The black Wrangler similarly sparkled in the sun with its own exotic safari-like feel and considered to be the dream vehicle for many “twenty somethings.”
Positioned beside the black escalade was the inimitable, eye catching white Z06 Corvette. When I was taking photos of the Corvette, it felt as though I could ‘do no wrong’ as every angle I shot displayed the car in an attractive way. Being such a rare car with 650 horsepower, I was tempted to take it for a test drive, but I refrained, of course.
The Magna golf course was the perfect setting for the fundraiser and did well to highlight the cars in all their glory. While inside the clubhouse, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Noel Croxon, founder of NewRoads in 1968. He humbly introduced himself and together we chatted with Ian Roy, a long time NewRoads employee. Later on, Ian also introduced me to Bruce Croxon of Dragon’s Den. After chatting briefly, I couldn’t help but laugh at how paradoxical Bruce’s ‘dragon’ title was as I found him to be very kindhearted and spoke so modestly, contradicting his fiery, “larger than life” title.
I left the fundraiser feeling like it was a day well spent in the sun as I watched over fabulous cars and met many interesting people at such a worthwhile cause. The icing on the cake would have been if I could have driven off into the sunset in the ZO6 Corvette.
Maybe next time!
