Car noises you should not ignore

Unfortunately our vehicles have the tendency to make strange noises at the most inopportune times. If you happen to hear an unfamiliar noise, try to diagnose and solve the problem as quickly as possible to avoid turning into a major problem.  Here is some advice for diagnosing car noises.
If you happen to hear squealing only when you brake, it probably just means there is a vibration at the brake pad and although it may be annoying, you have nothing to worry about it. However, if you hear the squeal when your car is moving, the brake pads are most likely worn out so you should have a mechanic lubricate them. If there is a grinding sound from the brakes, the pads are completely worn out and the car is unsafe to drive.
Another issue could be if you hear a thumping sound that increases and decreases with the sound of the car. If this happens, it is most likely a tire problem. To make sure you’re still safe to drive, you should inspect the tires as quickly as possible.
Finally, if there is a pinging sound in the engine it could mean the gas you have has too low of an octane rating. Try switching to premium gas and if the problems persists you should consult a mechanic.
