How to drive in Fog | Car Tips
While people are usually aware of how to properly drive in rain and snow, fewer people know how to drive in fog. However, fog can be just as dangerous as the other two conditions, so make sure you know how to drive correctly in it to avoid an accident.
Even though this may seem obvious, many people make the mistake of blasting their high beams in the fog. However, since the light reflects off the fog, you actually see worse with them on.
Considering it’s almost impossible to see the road ahead of you if it’s foggy out, you shouldn’t drive the same as you would during a clear day. Slow down and adjust your speed so you can react to what’s in front of you.
Although it may appear to be a good idea to drive closely behind someone when it’s foggy because it gives you a visual reference point, that is not the case. You’ll have less time to react if you do, and run the risk of rear-ending the car in front of you.
Finally, it’s a good idea to roll down your windows so you can hear the traffic around you. Even if you may not be able to see it, if you hear something you’ll have more time to react and reduce the risk of getting into an accident.
