Some would argue that fall is one of the best times of the year (I’d probably agree with them). Fall’s a season that many people wait for, so what better way to embrace fall then taking a mini road trip to one of our local apple orchards here in York Region. Last week I hopped in the new 2016 Kia Sorento SX+ with a friend and we made our way to Pine Farms Orchard in King City. It had been quite a long time since I had visited this orchard, but I was pleasantly surprised by it!

If you’ve never been to this particular orchard and you’re a York Region local I highly recommend it. Tucked into the hills of King City, Pine Farms is pretty much the cutest adventure I’ve been on. With a café open for lunch (until 3pm) as well as a shop filled with local creations, I felt like I’d driven hours up north instead of the 20 minutes that it actually took to get there. Another great thing about this Orchard is that you can drive your vehicle around the perimeter of the field allowing easy access to the apple of your choice.

Pine Farms is also unique in the way that they grow their apples. It can be intimidating to go to an orchard and not be able to reach the apples, or needing a latter to reach the fruit. At Pine Farms Orchard this is not a problem, since they grow their apples across wires horizontally (sort of like a vineyards). We were on a hunt for honey crisp or royal gala apples, and unfortunately we were too late, they had all been picked! We opted for Macintosh apples instead (just as delicious). Thus one tip for you: If you’re after the sweeter apples (honey crisp etc) that are more for eating raw try to go in September.

I was so excited to have the Kia Sorento for this road trip! We definitely needed the help of the AWD a few times. The ground was still a little damp and having the traction was helpful. Another great feature of this vehicle was the back up camera as well as the 360 view. The Pine Farms Orchard is a little bit of a tight squeeze so being able to see from all angles was amazing. Also you might notice that we had the luxury of driving the black out SX+ version of the Sorento. With black rims and black interior – it’s easy to see that this isn’t your average SUV.
