Finding the Right Vehicle for Your Teenager
One of the most stressful times for a parent is when their son/daughter drives for the first time. Their safety is obviously a big concern, but the stress can be greatly reduced by taking the time to pick the right vehicle for your teenager.
You should always be willing to spend extra to ensure the vehicle is suitable for your child. This doesn’t mean you have to buy a brand new car, but try and find a used vehicle with quality IIHS ratings and safety features.
Your child may prefer a vehicle with higher horsepower, but they will drive safer when it is lower. They will take much fewer and risks and will avoid speeding if they drive a vehicle with adequate power.
Since young drivers are much more likely to be involved in a collision, it is very important that you find a vehicle with good crash-test scores. You cannot always avoid an accident, but you can help limit the impact.
Finally, always make sure the vehicle is properly maintained. This means checking fluids and tires, changing oil routinely and making sure it is appropriate for the current weather.
