What to do following a Car Accident
The only thing that can make a car accident worse is not knowing how to properly deal with it. No one wants to think about potentially getting into an accident when they step into a vehicle but it’s important to know what to do if you get into that situation.
One of the most important things you can do in an accident, and one of the biggest things people neglect/forget to do is call 911. Although it may appear that no one requires medical attention in the crash, it is good to have a police officer there to make sure the other driver’s insurance is legit and up-to-date.
In addition, you should take pictures of the scene, trade information with the other driver(s), take down an accurate record of what happened and make sure you keep a file for yourself. All these things can help you in the long-run if you run into legal problems or difficulties with your insurance company.
Finally, it’s important to file your insurance claim right away following the accident. Many companies have limits on when you can file it and sending it in quickly will also allow you to know what you’re entitled to with your insurance policy.
