Heart-Warming Experience of Recruiting for a Fundraiser
Within a few days of my employment, I could already see the dedication the team at NewRoads has for fundraising. I was impressed with the way the company employees participate in their fundraising events and enthusiastically dedicate their time. In fact, just three weeks from my starting date, the company is hosting the NewRoads LakeRide fundraiser.
The LakeRide event is takes place Sunday, May 29th and will raise funds for Southlake Regional Health Centre to aid in buying critically needed equipment such as an Endobronchial Ultrasound used in the diagnosis and treatment of various cancers.
In order for NewRoads to really help Southlake, Kelly and I knew we needed to recruit as many cyclists as possible. After emails, calls and various online posts to enlist participants, we decided it was essential to go ‘back to basics’ and physically hand out flyers. We knew we had to give it all we’ve got to ‘get the show on the road’.
Kelly had me decked me out in some NewRoads gear and armed with a hundred flyers to hand out, I was ready! We strategized which stores would be most likely to have potential cyclists and off I went to introduce myself and ask employees to distribute our flyers to their customers.
Initially, I was a bit nervous not knowing how store managers and workers would respond to my request. However, after the sincere reception in my first store, I was not only relaxed but also filled with warmth as the store employee said, “We would be more than happy to help in such a good cause.”
Similarly, the stores that followed left me filled with a strong faith in humanity, as every single employee was more than happy to join in promoting the cause. The friendliness and care that I came across lifted my mood and made me confident that this event is going to be a very successful one!
