How to Drive Properly in the Rain | Car Tips

Drive properly in rain

This summer has been particularly bad for rain, especially in Toronto where a large amount of flooding has occurred. While many drivers feel winter driving is most dangerous, driving in the rainy summer months can still be hazardous so it’s important to know how to drive properly in these poor conditions.

1)      When you can, avoid driving at the side of the road. Stick to the middle as water runs of the centre of the road.

2)      Do not drive if you cannot see through the windshield. Even if you know the road like the back of your hand, you don’t know what’s out there so stop your vehicle if you can’t see because of the rain.

3)      Slow down! The speed limit is intended for good conditions so don’t feel you have to follow it in poor weather.

4)      Leave your headlights on. This will allow other drivers to see you and help to avoid a potential accident.

Finally, do not drive through water if you don’t know how deep it is. You can be swept away or even disappear below the waterline.
