There has been a hashtag sweeping the world over the past week or so, #ILookLikeAnEngineer. It all started when Isis Wenger was used in her companies recruiting ad. Well it blew up everywhere, people were talking about she looked too sexy to be an engineer. Genuinely surprised by this reaction to her authentic ad, Wenger called on other female engineers who don’t fall into the stereotypical engineer appearance to post their own portraits with the hashtag #ILookLikeAnEngineer on social media. Thus, the conversation begun, what is an engineer supposed to look like?
The Drum, Mary Barra - #ILookLikeAnEngineer
CEO of General Motors, Mary Barra joined the conversation on twitter and said: “General Motors has a diverse array of talented engineers around the world and I’m honored to lead them”. Barra also said in a recent article that, “Their (the engineers) expertise and diverse perspectives are helping us transform the future of transportation.” GM has been promoting this moment across their social media celebrating their engineers for what they can do, not for what they look like.

Since then hundreds of engineer’s have taken to the movement to help bring awareness to the issue still at hand, equality. It doesn’t look like this movement is coming to an end any time soon.
