4 Newmarket Holiday Events not to miss!
4 events to enjoy in Newmarket this holiday season
If you’re looking for something fun to do this holiday season, you’ll be happy to hear that you won’t have to look too far. Newmarket is the place to be this Christmas, offering a number of top-tier events throughout the month of December.
Here are four events you should check out:
Winter Wonderland
Winter Wonderland is undeniably the top Christmas event in Newmarket year after year. Located at Riverwalk Commons on Doug Duncan Drive, Winter Wonderland is a free and accessible event for the entire family.
Every night until January 4, Newmarket residents can take advantage of the light display and free outdoor skating on the Tim Hortons Skating and Water Feature. Hot chocolate will also be provided, so you won’t have to worry about staying warm.
There are also fire/LED performances every Friday from 6-9 pm that are hosted by some of the top entertainers in the area.
You can check out the Mitten Tree, which gives residents the opportunity to either donate gifts or take what is needed. Any remaining items will be donated to charity.
Finally, you should also consider spending a Saturday at the Newmarket Ice Lounge, which offers a great place to relax while the rest of your friends and family enjoy the free skating.
Be sure to check it out Newmarket!
Gallery of Festive Trees
Visit the Gallery of Festive Trees at 134 Main Street, South at the Elman W. Campbell Museum.
The museum offers an interesting display depicting several Christmas trees across various time periods. And… it’s completely free! This event ends on Friday, December 21st, so make sure to check it out before Christmas.
Live Nativity Pageant
Check out a live nativity pageant at Fairy Lake Park on 520 Water St. this holiday season. Presented by the Town of Newmarket and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, this pageant features real animals, giving the show a more authentic feel.
Showtimes are December 22 and 23 at 7 and 8 pm and December 24 at 7 pm. Make sure to arrive on time, as shows are approx. 15 minutes long.
First Night
If you’re looking for a fun family event on New Year’s Eve, head over to the Magna Centre at 800 Mulock Drive. Take advantage of the free public skating available, which runs from 5 – 8 pm.
If you’d rather escape the cold, there are several indoor activities taking place at the Tim Horton’s Gym, including live music and a glow-up dance floor along with free swimming at Metro Aquatic Pool.
The countdown and fireworks will take place at 9pm, so there’s no need to keep your little ones entertained until midnight.
Free Tim Horton’s coffee and hot chocolate will be provided. There will also be food trucks with gooddies like ooey-gooey tasty poutine!
