Subaru Valve Springs Recall WTY-84

Does this WTY-84 Recall Affect Me?

Subaru Canada is performing a recall on certain 2012-2014 model year Impreza and XV Crosstrek vehicles equipped with FA20 and FB20 engines (Manufactured between January 16, 2012 and May 14, 2013), and on 2013 model year BRZ to replace the valve springs. A total of 19,164 Canadian vehicles will  be affected by this recall.  The designation for this recall will be WTY-84

Description of the Issue and Safety Risk

The valve spring of the affected vehicles is located inside the engine and may fracture resulting in abnormal noise, engine stall or non-restarting condition. If the valve spring fractures, the engine may stall while driving and may become unable to restart, increasing the risk of safety.

Subaru Valve Spring Recall Repair Procedure

For all the involved vehicles, the valve spring recall repair procedure involves replacing the valve springs with improved parts. The engine will need to be removed from the vehicle and repaired using special tools to replace the valve springs.
