Performance Data Recorder (PDR) | Chevrolet Corvette

 
For anybody that thinks installing a small camera on the side of your car is cool will love this new option that will be available on the 2015 Corvette. The state of the art video recording system will not only allow you to find new roads but record what happens on them.
 
At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Chevrolet will show an industry first: a Performance Data Recorder (PDR) that records high-definition video with available telemetry overlays for street or track.
 
“The Performance Data Recorder combines the ability to record and share drive videos with the power of a professional-level motorsports telemetry system,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer, in a statement. “Drivers can easily record and share their experiences.”
 
The PDR system will show more information based on the mode that the car is in. Settings include:
 
• Track Mode. The data that can see will include speed, rpm, g-force, a location-based map, lap time and more.
• Sport Mode. Not quite as much, with speed and g-force.
• Touring Mode. Video and audio only, no data overlays.
• Performance Mode. It records performance metrics, such as zero to 60 mile per hour acceleration, quarter-mile speed and elapsed time, and zero to 100 mph runs.
The system was developed with Cosworth, the British motor sports engineering company. It already supplies the Corvette Racing team’s data acquisition and telemetry electronics system.
 
No pricing yet on the system. It will be available with the start of regular 2015 Corvette production in the latter part of the year.
