Portable GPS vs. Built-in Navigation
Many consumers looking to purchase a new vehicle have become curious as to what is the best option between in dash and portable navigation. Both have their pros and cons so it’s important to educate yourself on them to decide what the best option for you is.
Almost all built-in navigation systems come with much more than the just a GPS. Many allow you to play music, make hands-free calls and allow you to connect to Bluetooth. If you prefer to have everything in one place, than you would probably prefer built-in navigation.
However, the problem with built-in navigation is that you could only use it for one vehicle. If you and your significant other both own vehicles and require a GPS, you will have to purchase two built-in systems instead of one portable GPS you can share. For owners of multiple vehicles, portable navigation is most likely the preferred option.
The main concern with a portable GPS is that the screen is often much smaller than the built-in system so you will probably become more distracted trying to read the directions. Also, the GPS won’t come with anything else besides navigation, so you’ll need a different system to provide you with entertainment.
