Premium vs Regular Gas | Car Tips
Many of today’s drivers believe in paying extra money to purchase premium vs regular gas, as they think it’s better for their engine. However, this can be a costly mistake depending on the engine of your vehicle, especially during periods where gas prices are high.
Unless you own a luxury vehicle, your engine is most likely not designed for premium gas. Only consumers with “premium required” vehicles should be using the pricier gas as their cars need the extra octane. If your vehicle is “premium recommended” you can still use regular gas as the performance of your vehicle will only suffer slightly (it may go from 0 to 60mph half a second slower than before).
However, if your vehicle is neither “premium required” or “premium recommended” than paying for premium gas is just a big waste of money. Since your engine is designed to take regular gas and has a lower octane rating, the performance of your vehicle will not change if you choose to use premium.
Make sure you’re not one of the people who mistakenly use premium instead of regular gas as switching to the cheaper option can save you a significant amount of money in the long run.
