Although you should technically get an oil change every 5,000 kilometres to be safe, doing so can be difficult to keep track of and switching it that often is not always necessary. However, there are some signs you should look out for.

The most obvious sign is if your oil is black. This is a dead giveaway that you should get your oil changed immediately. Failure to do so may result in a more serious problem.

If your engine is loud and your vehicle and appears unstable, it may be a sign that your oil needs to be changed. When your oil is working properly, the engine runs silent and smoothly. Another clue is if your check engine light comes on. If you have an older vehicle, the light could indicate that you’re due for an oil change.

Check your oil often to see if the level is correct. If it drops below, the oil will need to be changed. If you wait too long before switching oil, you may run into much more serious problems.
