Things you should NOT do following a Car Accident
While we don’t like to think about it, we run the risk of getting into a car accident every time we step into a vehicle. Even the best drivers can get into accidents so it’s important to know how to properly handle yourself when you get into one.
The most obvious thing you should avoid doing is to flee the scene. By leaving the scene of the accident you have committed a crime and run the risk of spending time in jail depending on how serious the collision is.
You should always call 911 following the accident even if anyone in it appears to be safe. The police can still verify that the other driver’s insurance is valid and up to date. Also, a police report gives proof of happened if you end up going to court.
Finally, don’t forget that there can still be consequences even when you’ve given a police report and left the scene of the accident. You should register your insurance claim quickly so you don’t have to pay for a rental car yourself. Also, go to a doctor’s if you are experiencing persistent pain anywhere.
