Tips for Properly Maintaining Your Brakes

One of the most important parts of your vehicle are the brakes. Without high-functioning brakes, it’s impossible to stay safe and comfortable when driving.

There are three main parts that help to stop your vehicle; the pads, rotors and calipers. When you step on the brakes, fluid is sent to the calipers to create pressure on the pads. This force allows the rotor to bring your car to a stop.

In order to stay safe, you’ll need to ensure all three of those parts are in good shape. Check the pads, calipers and rotors on a consistent basis to make sure there is not any significant wear and tear. Even if you don’t do a visual check all the time, you’ll usually be able to tell if there is a problem with the brakes if they continually squeak when you stop.

Overall, it’s a good idea to stick to your owner’s manual when it comes to brake maintenance. However, since your style of driving can greatly affect the rate at which your brakes wear down, it is a good idea to give them a thorough check every 10,000 km.
