Top Ski Resorts in Ontario

With the winter weather upon us, now is the perfect time to spend a day or two skiing or snowboarding with your friends and family. While you’re likely to have a blast no matter where you go, there are certain resorts that are simply better than others. Below are the top hills Ontario has to offer.

Mount St. Louis Moonstone
Located just north of the beautiful city of Barrie, Mount St. Louis Moonstone is a top choice for skiers and snowboarders located across southern Ontario. With plenty of beginner and intermediate runs available, Mount St. Louis is a great place to learn how to ski, and/or to refine your skills.

If you’re planning on just spending one or half a day skiing, this resort should be near the top of your list.

Blue Mountain

The crème de la crème, Blue Mountain is considered by many to be the top ski resort in the province.  With dozens of hills for skiers of all ages, Blue Mountain is the perfect destination for a mini family vacation. If you or someone else you’re with isn’t much of a skier, there are still plenty of things to do, including shopping, going to a fancy restaurant, or spending the day at the spa.

Customers are encouraged to book well in advance, as reservations are often harder to come by because of Blue Mountain’s immense popularity.

Calabogie Parks

If you’re planning to spend a few days at our nation’s capital, head on over to Calabogie Park, located just outside of Ottawa. While it doesn’t offer as many runs as some of the other resorts on this list, Calabogie Park does have the highest vertical drop of any public hill in Ontario, making it a top choice among more advanced skiers.

Just like Blue Mountain, Calabogie Parks offers plenty of alternatives for non-skiers at their resort, including a hot tub, indoor pool, and a spa.

Horseshoe Resort

Horseshoe Resort is another top ski resort located about an hour north of Toronto.

Like Mount St. Louis., Horseshoe Resort is a perfect place to plan a day trip around, with 29 runs available for skiers of all levels.  If you’re not much a skier, there are still plenty of other outdoor activities you can try out, such as snowshoeing, tubing, or zip-lining.

Glen Eden

Situated just west of Toronto in Milton, Ont., Glen Eden has long been considered one of the best value ski resorts in Ontario. While it doesn’t offer nearly the same number of runs as Blue Mountain or Mount St. Louis, Glen Eden is extremely affordable and super convenient for anyone living in the GTA.
If you or your children are relatively new to skiing or snowboarding, Glen Eden is a good place to start.

Searchmount Resort

While it’s quite a ways away, Sault Ste. Marie’s Searchmount Resort is a must visit for avid skiers. With plenty of fresh snow, Searchmount is a great place to carve some turns and enjoy the beautiful nature up north. The good news is, since it is up north, it’s usually open for a longer period than your average GTA resort.
