How to use Jumper Cables

Jumper cables can be extremely useful if your car battery dies on you but pointless if you don’t know how to use them. Read ahead to learn how to properly use jumper cables so you’re not stranded on your own.

To jump start your vehicle, you’ll need to park one vehicle in front of the one with the dead battery. The vehicle in front should continue to run throughout the entire process. You can damage both vehicles if you turn it off by mistake.

Next, connect the cables to the vehicle with the dead battery first. The red cable should be connected to the positive terminal and the black cable should be connected to the negative terminal. Then, do the same thing with the battery of the vehicle in front. Make sure the cables are not touching each other before you do this.

Once this has been completed, rev up the engine of the vehicle in front and try and start the vehicle with the dead battery. It should work after one or two attempts. Finally, remove the cables in the opposite order from before.
