What to do if you lock your keys in your car

 
 
We all hope it never happens however occasionally you lock your keys in your car. It’s important to know what to do when you run into this situation.
 
If you feel that you’re in a dangerous area, the first thing you should do is to call 911 to get assistance as quickly as possible. However, if you’re comfortable where you are while you wait for help, it’s a good idea to just call roadside assistance.
 
Unfortunately, many people only have the number for roadside assistance in their vehicle, which clearly they can’t access. If you run out of free options it might be a good idea to call a tow truck. Just dial 411 and you should be able to locate tow service close by.
 
To avoid running into this situation in the first place, you should ask your dealer to make a spare key for you that will open your car’s doors in an emergency, but won’t be able to start the vehicle. This is a very smart option, as getting your keys locked in your vehicle can be a huge annoyance.
