Why Auto Maintenance Costs are Worth it
Auto Maintenance Costs – On average, individuals spend more on auto repairs every year than they do on car insurance. While this may seem that auto repairs are too expensive and not a good deal, you’ll actually be saving money in the long run if you take good care of your car and have parts fixed when they need to be.
The average American household spends more than $800 annually on auto repairs. However, that number is nothing compared to purchasing a new vehicle. You’ll be surprised at how much money you can save by keeping your car five years after it has been paid off.
Let’s assume you drive 25,000 kilometres every year, which is actually well above the national average. That means that in five years you would have driven 125,000 kilometres and will probably go through 25 oil changes during that time period. If oil changes are $50 each, you would spend $1250 on oil changes through the five years. Add another $2000 for service costs and $1500 for major replacements such as new brakes and shock absorbers and the cost of maintenance over those five years would be $4750.
Even though $4750 may seem expensive, that is nothing compared to purchasing a brand new vehicle. You should take your car to your dealer every few months to either have your oil changed or to see if any part needs to be replaced.
