With summer almost officially over, the cold winter months will soon be here which means you’ll have to make some adjustments to your vehicle. In order to ensure you’re prepared for any winter driving situation, you should winterize your vehicle before the cold appears.

The biggest and most important thing to do is to change your tires. While all-season tires may save you money, they are simply not a safe option for Canadian winters. Invest in snow tires for the winter months to keep you safe behind the wheel.

If you haven’t gotten your oil changed in a long time, consider switching it with oil of a lower viscosity. Colder temperatures cause oil to thicken so you’ll need thinner oil for the winter months.

In addition, make sure to put the correct amount of antifreeze in your vehicle. Make sure to have a 50:50 ratio of antifreeze to water to ensure the fluids in your vehicle don’t freeze.

Since the winter months are harder on your engine, check your battery to make sure it’s not time to replace it. Batteries typically go on sale in the fall so grab one now while you still can.
